Manshoon’s Web of Unworking |
Manshoon’s Web of Unworking Abjuration Level: Sorc/Wiz 8 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 action Range: Medium (100 ft.+10 ft./lvl) Area: 20-ft radius burst Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: None or Will negates (see text) Spell Resistance: Yes Upon casting this spell, a web of coruscating energy erupts from the designated point, connecting with all sources of magic in sight, i.e. existing spell effects, magical items, arcane and divine spellcasters alike. The energy web works like a automatically successful dispel magic against all spell effects (beneficial or otherwise) in the area that can be normally affected by dispel magic. Unlike dispel magic, however, this spell also releases the disrupted magical energy as a debilitative surge that harms the recipient of the original spell effect, dealing 1d6 points of damage per level of each spell disrupted. No save is allowed to avoid such damage; however, any SR is applicable. Area of effect spells (such as consecrate) are only affected if centered within the effect of the web of unworking. Such spells are discharged without further effect, as though a dispel magic had been cast with a successful dispel check made. In addition to the above effects, all spellcasters with prepared spells in the area of effect have to make successful Will checks, or be subject to a massive energy backlash, losing all spells in their highest level spell slots and taking 1 point of damage per spell level lost this way. They are also stunned and unable to make any moves for the next round. Magical items are not affected by the web of unworking, though the initial burst of energy may serve to reveal items otherwise not known to be enchanted. Background: This spell has long been restricted to Manshoon’s private arsenal of offensive wizardry and used to great effect against his spellcaster foes, though it is known to have been passed to certain other powerful wizards in exchange for asylum by Manshoon clones during the Manshoon Wars debacle. |
