Daggerstrike Transmutation Level: Sorc/Wiz 1 Components: V, S Casting Time: 1 action Range: Touch Target: Dagger held in your hand Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: See text Spell Resistance: No You target a dagger in your hand with this spell, causing it to vanish from your grasp and manifest within 5 feet of a target creature in sight up to 30 feet away, making a single attack on the target from a hovering position. The dagger attacks with your base attack bonus plus your Intelligence or Charisma modifer, for wizards and sorcerers respectively. Size modifiers do not apply, and the dagger does not get a flanking modifier or help a combatant get one. The dagger always strikes from your direction, and it may only manifest if there is unobstructed space before the target; the spell otherwise fails. All other modifiers and inherent magical bonuses of the dagger used are taken into account. The target must make a Reflex save or be considered flat-footed with regard to the dagger’s attack. The dagger teleports back to your hand regardless of physical restraints at the end of the combat round. However, if caught within an antimagic field, globe of invulnerability or any other effect that would normally inhibit a 1st level spell, the dagger becomes inanimate and falls to the surface beneath. Spell Resistance does not affect the operation of this spell in any way. Background: This spell is a Zhentarim creation, common among arcane spellcasters of their ranks. Zhentarim mages typically use this in concert with poisonous or magical daggers to bring down dangerous foes from a distance. |
